Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about owner financing, how Owner Financing Listings works, and buying or selling with owner carry seller financing.
What is owner financing?+
Owner financing (also called seller financing) is an arrangement where the property seller acts as the lender instead of a bank. The buyer makes a down payment and then pays the seller directly in monthly installments, according to terms both parties agree on.
How is owner financing different from a traditional mortgage?+
With a traditional mortgage, a bank or lender qualifies you, funds the purchase, and you repay the bank. With owner financing, the seller funds the purchase themselves and you repay them directly, which often means more flexible qualification and faster closing.
Do I need to qualify like I would for a bank loan?+
Requirements vary by seller. Many owner-financed deals have more flexible qualification than a bank, since the seller sets their own terms — but sellers may still check income, credit, or ask for references before agreeing to finance a sale.
Is the property title transferred to me right away?+
It depends on the structure of the deal. Some owner-financing arrangements transfer title immediately with a mortgage or deed of trust securing the seller's interest; others use a land contract where title transfers once the loan is paid off. Ask the seller which structure they're using.
Is it free to list my property on OwnerFi Listings?+
Yes — listing your property is currently free. Just create a seller account, add your property details and financing terms, and your listing goes live right away.
